Working backwards through a discography is always risky, as I was unable to hear seminal albums like Fake Can Be Just as Good and Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons without comparing them to the sound of Takahashi left the band shortly after, with Blonde Redhead continuing as a trio, releasing a second album, "La Mia Vita Violenta" in the same year. Pugnacious post-punk has unexpected melodies, bright guitars and bouncy rhythms. This snarling 6-piece from London mixes heavy, guitar-driven doom with a punk edge and psych workouts. Stalking around the stage, offering glass-shattering barks during Equus she is captivating — dressed in a smocked dress and moving jerkily as she does so she has an air of a glorious cross between Yoko Ono and Heidi. Instrumental Live at Snacktime from Blonde Redhead: The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Who better then to pour an endless flood of love reciprocity right back over them than Blonde Redhead, a band whose musical output — for over 22 years, mind you — has consistently kept a firm arm wrapped around their fans. Applause was equally energetic by the end of each and every number. They sounded SO good--they are truly talented musicians that sound just as great live, as on their CDs.
